EDUCATION

Empower focuses on supporting young people to achieve high standards of education. We expect all of our students to make the most of their educational opportunities. In Honduras, all our boys study at a private Montessori high school. It is a little pricey for us to send them there, but it is worth it, especially as we aim to develop intelligent Christian adults who will eventually return to their communities to build up others. They are excelling!                                                                                                                        Just this month, November 2025, I was informed five of the boys attained the following average grades in their recent term exams: Wilmer 96%, Kevin 95%, Oscar 98%, Cesar 91% and, Caleb 93%.

Wow! I don't know about you, but I know I never achieved grade averages remotely close to that!

Some of our San Pedro Sula boys. All scoring fantastic grades.

Would you like to support their education? If so, click here.

This success is in part thanks to our San Pedro Sula house mum, Marcia, who is herself professionally involved in education. This is all despite the boys’ very challenging backgrounds. Some of the guys come from the city rubbish dump slum area, while others have grown up surrounded by gangs and violence. Others have witnessed murder and extreme violence. Living in their gang zones, our boys never had the chance to improve their lives.

It is so gratifying to see our guys making the most of their opportunities. Two of the boys are now considering the courses that they will study at university – one is considering law, and the other, business management. We appreciate everyone who supports this work. You should feel proud of your contribution.

The work there is going so well that we have not only purchased a house that is used as our project base, but also, we are about to complete a two-storey addition on the property. Its footprint is 60 m2 (645 sq feet) in size, which means that it is in total of 120 m2. This will enable us to house a further minimum of 15 boys. Meanwhile, over the border in El Salvador, our new boys’ project also shows strong results, with Mateo, Nelson, and Miguel placing first, second, and third respectively in their classes at their Christian private school. At their school, academic and behavioural expectations are higher than at government schools.

Erick, who leads our program there, provides ongoing mentoring/discipleship, support, encouragement, contact with both the boys’ caregivers and their various schoolteachers, feeding, and helping with homework. This is all in aid of helping the boys succeed academically, socially, spiritually and physically.

Mateo proudly stands alongside our El Salvador project managers. Together they celebrate his academic achievement - coming top of the class!

And let us not forget our young people in Nepal, where ten of our girls and five of our boys from two of our Kathmandu homes have just begun university study. They are joining those who are already studying at university level.
