In Honduras and El Salvador, we aim is to develop educated, professional young Christian men who will one day play active leadership roles within their communities.

From the graphic, you can see that San Pedro Sula, Honduras, has taken out the top spot again as The World’s Most Dangerous City. Tegucigalpa, the nation’s capital, came in at third.

SAN PEDRO SULA HOME. RECENT ARRIVALS     He is so young. He has no dad. Then one night, the gang came calling on his mum – they murdered her.  Some of his relatives are gang members. Kids like him end up drifting into the gang scene. Bear in mind that these gangs are reputedly the world’smost violent.                                             But now he lives with us!  If he tries hard and buckles down, then likely a good marriage, a quality education, a professional career, coupled with leading a meaningful ministry, is beckoning.

Another new boy did not quite fit our selection criteria because we felt that his situation was not desperate enough. We were told that he had both a supportive mum and dad, plus he went to school. As we saw it, his problem was simply that he lived in a gang zone. We felt that this was not sufficient grounds for selection to join us.                                   Until a few days later, we heard that the gang had come to their house and told the family that he had to join them. So now the boy has come to live with us, and his family has fled their home for their lives to escape punishment for their disobedience.

Our San Pedro Sula boys’ house is owned by the ministry, because a couple of years back we “bought” it via a rent-to-buy contract at a severely reduced price.                    Our boys are doing much better than simply “good”, they are doing great. Our house parents – pastors of a local church – are warm, organised and visionary.

Meanwhile, in El Salvador, we have taken on more boys into the Education Project. Our leader there now has his wife, Monica working there too. We feel it is a bonus for our kids to see what a normal married couple looks and acts like, as opposed to the dysfunctionality that they have lived in all of their lives. We are also now employing an English language tutor to come in and professionally teach the guys English. This is all part and parcel of our plan to develop intelligent Christian leadership.
